Taste
Thomas H. Handy 2021 is a highly sought-after bourbon that is part of the coveted "Antique Collection Series" produced at the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery. It is named after Master Distiller and innovative bartender Thomas H. Handy, who had a remarkable reputation for making a great cocktail. This rare blend is rich and smooth with prominent notes of anise, mingled with charred rye. On the palate, you'll notice bold notes of torched oak, with undertones of tobacco and cinnamon that create a complex flavor profile. The finish is exceptionally smooth, revealing slight hints of spearmint and chocolate that linger beautifully, making it a true delight for bourbon enthusiasts.

History
Thomas H. Handy 2021 is a bold spirit that has been around since 1782 and has evolved over the years while maintaining its high quality. This popular spirit found its roots in bars and saloons, notably the Sazerac Coffee House established in 1850 in New Orleans. It became a social hub where patrons enjoyed fine spirits. Although it gained recognition, it wasn’t until 1895 that it was mentioned in print. Vincent Miret, a co-owner and bartender at the Sazerac House, became known for his exceptional cocktail mixing skills. Initially crafted from brandy, sugar, and bitters, the recipe transitioned to rye whisky in 1885. Between 1895 and 1899, Thomas H. Handy sold six bottled cocktails, but the Sazerac itself wasn’t referenced until 1901. In 1919, Handy founded the Sazerac Company just before Prohibition, successfully navigating the challenges of the era. By 1933, they re-entered the cocktail market, launching a bar and manufacturing facility in New Orleans. The recipe was bottled and sold at the Sazerac Bar until 1949 when it moved to the Roosevelt Hotel, where it remains today. In 1952, they expanded their offerings to include vodkas and began acquiring brands, leading to the establishment of Buffalo Trace in 1999. This highly collectible spirit, released in 2022, is part of Buffalo Trace’s Antique Collection and is an uncut, unfiltered Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey. The 2021 release is bottled at 129.5 proof (64.75% ABV) and was distilled in the spring of 2015, aged in Warehouses I, L, O, and K.
